'Dialogue on Awakening: Communion with a Loving Brother'
by Tom Carpenter   (Reviewed by Susanna Freymark)

"Awaken from the dream: Jesus is talking to Tom Carpenter in Hawaii!" - Not a 'News of the World' headline, but a book of dialogue and communion that one man has had with Jesus. Tom Carpenter has asked and has received answers to questions about Truth, illusion vs. Reality, AIDS, suicide and soulmates, amongst others. When he is in touch with Jesus, he feels "a sense of identification in knowing him as that expression of whole mind."

This is a book about the awakening to our own truth and light, about connecting with our Self and freeing ourselves from the doubts of the ego. Whatever personal and religious background the reader holds from the past -- let them go. Whatever part of your 'earthly self' you bring to this book -- suspend your judgements, open your mind and hear the truth. This is an important book in so many ways, most of them intangible and unexplainable.

Linda Carpenter, Tom's wife, taped Tom's communion with this holy brother over a three- year period. She transcribed the information and it is presented here in a simple white-cover book. Tom Carpenter does not see himself as special because he has experienced this dialogue, but views it as a 'natural' occurrence and does not attach any special status to those who channel, believing that we all have the capacity to commune and move beyond the limits of our logical mind.

There are specific questions about A Course in Miracles® and the concepts of the dialogue will be familiar to Course students. "The process of awakening is a concept of the ego. You Are Awake. You are completely whole. You do not see it ... There is nothing to overcome ... there is only to let go of the illusion." Questions about war, separation, creativity and other human conditions are answered in a direct and gentle way.

There is a humility in this book that helps the words and message be understood, it is not preaching or judging or assuming, and its message lingers as you begin to digest what it is really saying. It is a book about peace, it is "the process of loving yourself with no restrictions that holds the meaning of who you are." It is about a change of mind.

It was the voice of Jesus that suggested the term 'brother.' His explanation was that "I am not above you. I am no greater Son of God than you are."

Whatever your views on communion, channelling, Christianity and Jesus, buy this book. I won't be loaning mine to friends for a while. I want this dialogue where I can see it, feel it and hold it close to my heart. It is a book for a new era of awareness.

'Dialogue on Awakening' is published by The Carpenter's Press, Princeville, Hawaii.
